FTB 1.6.4 and reducing LAG!!

Hi guys,

So I will start off by saying i have a pretty crap laptop that I am playing on.

After finding out that FTB 1.6.4 was released for the Direwolf20 pack, I was ecstatic. Then, I found out it wasn't a good idea to run Optifine. This left me with lag.

I was still determined to play though and with 3 out of 4 gigs of ram dedicated to FTB, I can still only play on tiny render distance to get perfectly smooth gaming. (kinda).

So, does anyone have any tips to reduce lag that will let me bump up my render distance but still have a smooth time? (disregarding optifine and ram dedication)
