I have tired all solutions I could find on this forum and so far no luck but here is what I have done so far.

changed the port from default

forwarded the port on my router

ran the server as administrator

checking to see if the port is open on yougetsignal.com which it is labeled as closed every time.

reset router to factory default

enabled dmz and respond to ping

set it up as dmz server

turned of firewalls and antiviruses on both router and hosting pc.

in all cases I can join the server via the network address but not using the external address.

if anyone can give me any ideas I would greatly appreciate it.

On your game PC; add server and setup your external IP address along with the internal 192.168 IP
This will at least let you see if YOU can see your server both on its internal IP and it's external IP.
On your server page you should see both come up available.

It's hard to troubleshoot without seeing any IP's but I also understand you may not want to share them on a public forum.

Are you certain your friends are using the correct external IP that your router is pulling your ISP?
Did you reboot your router after forwarding the port from the external IP to the internal IP of your server? Some routers require this, some do not.
Are you sure you forwarded the port to the correct internal IP.

I know these may be dumb questions but with the limited amount of info above we need to start somewhere.

Firewall on the server PC should not matter, if it was causing an issue you would not be able to find the server on your internal 192 IP either.

It really sounds like port forwarding on the router is not setup correctly. Is there maybe another router in the loop as well? Does yoru modem have a built in router and is it enabled? Just throwing ideas out there.

ok so I already have the two address for the server (local and external) side by side on my screen. only the local shows up. my port forwarding is set up the same way I did it last time i set up a server however this time it just doesn't work.

If my port forwarding isn't set up correctly How should we proceed to diagnose that problem?

Also I can email you the ip address if it will help diagnose the issue.

Thank you for your time.

Just had another realy dumb thought. Can the server get out to the internet?
Can you get to google? Just to confirm it has external internet access.

Then try this:
open a command prompt and type tracert www.google.com
Take a screenshot of the result and send it to me in a pm.
I'll see if I can get any ideas from there.
My responses may be delayed as I'm at work and can't always check the forums.

For anyone following. It looks like there are 2 routers in place.
So ISP modem -> router 1 -> router 2 -> Minecraft server PC & Minecraft client PC
Detsuo is going to reconfigure port forwarding to push through both routers and this should resolve the issue.....

After several PM's back and forth we discovered the modem was a combo modem/router set to operate in routing mode.
Detsuo was able to convert the modem to bridge mode which completely disables all routing functions.

Seeing as he has his own router this was not needed to be duplicated by the modem.
His server is now accesible to the public. :)

Many ISP's now have combination units. If your modem is working as a router you either need to to bridge it, or have access to log into it and setup port forwarding in teh modem itself.
