If, before you load the game, you press the "edit mods" button, there should be a file that is disabled called fastcraft. Enable that, and see if it works.
Also, make sure you don't give Minecraft more than 4gb of ram (in the launcher options), and remove all the arguments you set up.

I had the same issues as you (FPS of ~7) and adding fastcraft bumped me up to 30-45, and I have a worse PC than you

Make sure to go into the NVIDIA control panel and set Java to use the "High Performance Card", otherwise it won't use it.

If you are using a minimap try turning it off, it probably won't effect you but I got 1-3 fps until I disabled it now I'm getting 35-40

Fuzz,

do you know how to launch FTB with mmc? Ive created a new instance, downloaded forge and copy and paste the folders from the mod pack im using and it launches but the window just stays black and eventually goes not responding and wont recover. Theres also an option for mmc to show each pack and ive launched that was as well with the same results any idea?

I had the same issues as the OP, I have a comparable computer and would average 30-50 fps, then random times I would drop to 1-10 fps and wouldn’t recover and I would have to relaunch FTB launcher to recover. I recently overclocked my video card and this has fixed the issue and im at 150-200fps but imo I shouldn’t need to do this. This all started when 1.7 was released so I think they changed something I just don’t know what

In MultiMC, there is an option to 'track FTB instances' in the settings (on the main menu). Once you've checked that (and confirmed that MultiMC has the correct path to your FTB installation) all of your FTB instances will appear in their own group.

Hope that helps.

Launch Infinity using MultiMC [Link] and see if your results improve. Also, give it a shot with out all the Java switches.
Actually now you mention it, I always run FTB packs from MMC as it seems to be less laggy. If you install MMC, you should see all FTB packs (inc. 3rd party packs) you have installed on it, try launching it from there.

yea ive done that and the window goes to not respoding which is weird because i have no issues with launching of ftb launcher so its not a software issue(Java)

How long did you leave it in Not Responding for? I say 5 minutes is a minimum wait for a pack as big as Infinity

Get Java 8 64 bit if you aren't playing old 1.6 packs. Java 8 is fully compatible with 1.7 packs. If you upgrade to Java 8, DO NOT USE JVM ARGUMENTS. All the ones I have seen are for Java 7 and actually make Java 8 run worse. Don't allocate too much RAM. 2.5-3 gigs is all you need. Even with texture packs, don't use more than 3.5 gigs. DO NOT USE "Optimization arguments for fast computers" in the FTB launcher with Java 8. They made me lose 20-30 FPS and if I hit F7 to show where mobs could spawn, my FPS dropped to 5 or less. Don't use the vsync built into Minecraft. With it on, I barely got 35 FPS. With it turned off and framerate setting in game set to 80, I get 70-80 almost constant. I am running maximum lighting, fancy graphics, 32x textures, and am getting on average 70 FPS playing at 1080p in fullscreen mode. My graphics card is an old 560 TI with only 1 gig of Vram do your card should have no problem.
