FPS instability

  • Tech Support section is for getting help with FTB related problems. If there's a repeatable issue that can be labeled as a bug, then please use the issue tracker for the pack or the app at GitHub issue trackers - If there's no repository for a pack that means that the pack is old and/or will not be updated. Bugs for older packs will not be fixed, unless they are critical.

Title:
FPS instability
Launcher Version:
Modpack:
Infinity
Modpack Version:
1.6.2
Log Link:
Details of the issue:
My frame rate is very unstable, ranging from 10 FPS to 100+ if I stand still for a minute. When I tried the FPS limit option, it only brought down the max. I have 16 GB RAM and 6 GB devoted(I tried dropping to 3.5 GB devoted), optifine is installed I have seen posts saying that java uses integrated graphics by default and to use the NVidia control panel to change that option, but I can't find it anywhere.
GPU: NVidia Geforce GTX 770M.
OS: windows 7 64 bit.
Java: 64 bit, up to date.
. CPU: i7-4800MQ.

Goto your performance option in optifine and set it to stable fps I think it is called. Then limit the fps to 30 or 60 not to unlimited. Put your chunk rate to like 4 - 8 chunks. Turn all animations off and tweak it a bit and it will work a lot. I been meaning to make a video on optifine setup I am just busy with school. Hope this helps you a bit :) Also use optifine ultra

With the latest NVIDIA drivers the option for forcing use of the dedicated GPU should be under:

1. Nvidia Control Panel
2. Manage 3D settings
3. Global settings
4. Switch the drop-down menu from Auto to NVIDIA
5. Reboot your PC

If you just want a specific executable to use the NVIDIA GPU: Use the Program settings tab. If the executable is not listed browse for it and add it.

From what I have read my i7 does have integrated graphics, but that option just doesn't show up on the drop down where it should be. Am I wrong about that?

As far as optifine goes, I do have fps stability on, (and a render distance of 8 chunks)

and after i downloaded optifine ultra instead of just giving me a file to drag into the mods folder, it gave me an executable that installed it on my vanilla launcher.
One other thing that may or may not be pertinent, I use the curse launcher instead of the FTB launcher because infinity just plain wouldn't launch on the FTB launcher, but when I use the curse launcher it does.

Drag the ultra to the FTB mod folder to what ever pack you are using.
Turn graphics to fast , smooth lighting off , fog off , deatials , clouds off , sky off , sun and moon off , depth fog off, rain and snow off, in animations all animations off this will cause watering cans to not show water though, under performance smooth fps off , load far on or off , chunk updates 1 , fath masth off , fast render off , smooth world on , preload chunks off , dynamic updates off , lazy chunk loading on. There that may help a bit more :)

Also I do not know why FTB launcher will not work compared to curse. I personally do not like curse at all and down load the optifine ultra JAR file not the EXE :)

Do you have the latest drivers installed?
Scroll through all options. Can you find an option called: Preferred graphics processor?
Also check at the program specific options if you can set the preferred graphics processor to NVIDIA for Java.
