Found a strange Mystcraft bug I think.

My Mystcraft ages keep having Nether Portals popping up in them.

I dismissed it at first as a pranking admin.
But when I found 2, 3, and 4 Nether portals popped up.
It got me to wondering.

Has anyone seen this before?

Are they working portals? Because that is supposed to be impossible. Nether portals and End portals only work from the overworld.

Nether portals work in Mystcraft ages.
If you're trying to go to the nether that is.
In fact, it's the only way out of a Mystcraft age if you forgot a linking book and there isn't a Star Rift.

But, you cannot go from the Nether to a Mystcraft age.

Nope just tested. You can build the nether portal in any age but it WILL NOT LIGHT. You can cheat in some portal anywhere. So if that is the case, the OP was probably being trolled by server admins.

About randomly spawning portals: I have encountered this happening in the overworld with both the mindcrack and the ultimate packs. Havent seen a nether portal in a mystcraft age though. Might have something to do with it though.

Random portals in the overworld is a common vanilla bug. It sometimes makes a new portal every time you return from the Nether even though the original portal is fine. I played on one server where after a number of visits to the Nether we had more than 10 portals in the overworld that all went to the same gate in the Nether. It became a good source of obsidian.

I had this same issue as well. To replicate it, try moving an iron chest with a gravity gun through a mystcraft portal of crystals. When I ended up on the other side, there seemed to always be an active nether portal that destroyed my construction foam ceiling

The server I play on is the MindCrack pack with MystCraft added so we don't bother with Nether Portals after the first one anymore. We just make books. They are much better, for multiple reasons.
