One of my players broke a server rule by filling his quarry with water. We've had trouble with that in the past and it seems now this thing is taking the down the server every 5 minutes or so. It's a commercially rented server so I don't have total control of the box but I do have quite a lot of leeway with file manipulation and ftp-ing into the box. Is there something I can do in-game or out to fix this? It's been running for over a month and we have quite a lot of progress that I would hate to lose because of one player.

What would happen if I just deleted the folder that contained that chunk's data? I can't stay in the game long enough to de-water the quarry and I'm worried that won't be a good fix.

Any help is appreciated, as well as rules/guidelines to put into place to keep this kind of crap from happening. I am thinking of limiting the size of quarries in addition to forbidding water in them altogether. Again, any help would be great.

Did he flood it intentionally? Underground water pockets do exist, after all, which have the same effect essentially. I find it the best practice to setup quarries over the sea only, since the water doesn't lag the same way in an ocean.

It is possible to clean it by hand - it's slow and annoying especially if the server crashes with it, but I've done it in the past. Shouldn't take that long in creative mode.

If you are willing to cheat items in... Filler with energy cells and fill that sucker in. It'll cap the water pretty fast.

Option one, install forgeEssential. Use worldedit to turn the water into something else.
Option one, install forgeEssential. Beleive there is a command to turn water into ice now.
Option two, use a filler(Buildcraft) and box of the water so its not flowing.

One guy? I had 7 quarries to deal with the other day. And they thought I was been unreasonable moody.

Sorry about sounding noobie but i run a server and i encourage my members to put water in there quarrys incase they run into lava, also it doesnt seem to cause any extra lag on my server, also can you take the map folder from the server file and load it in single player and use mcedit or buildcraft to fix it?
