Here are the steps I followed for fixing my FTB issues when installing:
1. Download the FTBLauncher
2. Launch it, try to log in (If you get a Mods button, PLAY!)
3. Close FTB/Minecraft
4. Open FTBLauncher, click on the options tab and make a note of where the installation directory is
Mine was listed as c:\users\user\desktop
5. Close FTB
6. Download FTBBetaA.zip from here: http://repo.creeperhost.net/direct/FTB2/6b0342f3d7703bff2ead109ef9f46f47/FTBBetaA.zip
7. Open the zip file
8. Open the folder that you obtained in step 4.
9. Copy the the instamod folder from the zip file into the FTBBETAA folder (in the root)
10. Copy the contents of the .minecraft folder in the zip file into the minecraft folder in the FTBBETAA folder.
Relaunch FTB, Log in and you should have the mods installed.
The other stickied post did not work for me, because the install folder was pointed to my desktop, I believe this is the reason the launcher did not download the mods correctly.
