Hey there.

I have been largely unsuccesful in finding Sulfor ore from Railcraft in my current world.
I have found about 2 ores worth, but not much more than that. Any tips on where to look?

I am running a custom pack built from the bases of Dw20 but heavily modified

Around lava pools close to bedrock.
I think that is Saltpeter you are thinking of.
I believe Sulfur is supposed to be crafted from saltpeter now. Think I noticed there was a new crafting method for the RC version of sulfur. I just went with the IC2 option and extracted it from Gunpowder :p

Ahh right. The crafting method I had spotted was from mariculture. It has the RC sulfur as a byproduct of smelting down metal dusts.

Found the "little" thing that i had forgot, soul sand + netherrack + induction smelter = 25% chance of sulfer :) But many thanks for the quick help :)

Actually, you're incorrect, saltpeter spawns in the desert in large amounts where as sulfur spawns near or under lava, and a lot of it is near bedrock due to the lava lakes there.

That is how it used to be yes, but at least in Monster 1.1.0 all the Sulfur spawns is now replaced with Saltpeter. Don't know if it was changed in the COFH oregen shuffle, but if you dig down to bedrock you are almost guaranteed to find Saltpeter now. I assume that the DW20 pack runs the same oregen since the OP is having trouble finding Sulfur.

...wat. Why they would change this is beyond me. They are two vastly different resources with two vastly different chemical makeups. Saltpeter does NOT appear most near lava, yet sulfur does. Both can be found beyond the locations shown in RC Before this derp yet both can be easily found in these locations.

I did some exploring tonight and it's just like the Railcraft wiki says --- Sulfur Ore can be found in Extreme Mountains and Extreme Mountains Edge Biomes. It is found around layer 10, but only near lava pools.

When broken it drops several Sulfur Dust. Sulfur Dust is a key ingredient in making Gunpowder, though there may be other uses in the future.

*Extreme Hills and Extreme Hills Edge, same as emeralds.

Depending on what biome mod you're using then, I know that a lot of the extra biomes in those mods are *really* Extreme Hills biomes with extra fluff on the top layer.[DOUBLEPOST=1395388490][/DOUBLEPOST]I should point out that I had out-of-the-box configs and my only tech mods were Buildcraft, Railcraft and Forestry; newest version of each.
