Filler Not Dispensing blocks

I'm on a Ultimate Pack server with a friend and I set up a filler to mine out a large hill in the Twilight Forrest. After setting it up and starting the filler, I ran around until I found where it was starting at, which was the top. I tried to find the blocks it was supposed to be destroying and leaving behind but there was none. I would see the blocks get destroyed, see the mini-blocks pop up, and then they would disappear. I tried to stand next to the blocks as they were destroyed, made sure I had no inventory, everything but the blocks are just gone.

Secondly, I thought it was supposed to destroy from the ground up?

A filler just fills or clears an area. It doesn't mine/ quarry

When did they change that? For a while it could break items and just deposit the block where it broke it at, such as at 13:30 of Etho's LP here

What would you suggest to mine mass amounts of stuff than? I have a little over a stack of diamond but only 3-4 Iron right now..

Well perhaps I'm wrong. But every time I've tried and seen dire use fillers they just remove or fill an area. But doesn't actually give any drops..

See, the filler was nerfed for that exact reason. It's meant to be a construction aide, not a substitute to a quarry. So you can either go the default Quarry route, or something a little more ridiculous, i.e. frame thing with hundreds of block breakers.

Just a note, I have 60 industrial steam engines running and this thing still pulls ahead of what they can keep up, but that's mostly b/c of the age it's in (extreme hills, superflat) if you had an age that wasn't quite so high (y level) it would be much better.

Dang...I need to get some iron to even attempt to start to work towards a quarry...

You can use miner from IC2 which is reasonably cheap.
However it requires you to
place
power
wait
remove
move a bit
and repeat.

Miner requires a Mining Drill, which requires a lot more iron than I have laying around, plus once I get a drill its just a few small diamonds and gold before I can make a quarry. I guess its back to strip mining.
