Extra Utilities Chandelier(16 block radius) or Magnum torch(64 block radius) stops hostile mob spawns.

But they don't stop slimes. And I know this for a fact because I had like 4 Magnum Torches around the edge of my Direwolf base, but slimes were spawning like crazy down in the hole my BC quarry left behind. I think the best way to stop them from spawning in your base might be to use half-slabs for your floor? I don't think slimes can spawn on slabs?

You prob built your base too deep - don't slime spawns stop at like elev. 40 or so? I had my base up at sea level (elev 64) and no slimes spawned there, they were all down deep in the quarry hole. I ended up filling the hole simply because I got sick of how many stacks of slimeballs I had accumulated (thanks to my TiCo Looting III sword of course).

But I agree, slime spawns are way overdone in Direwolf, for whatever reason. Even Dire commented on it early in his Let'sPlay and I agreed with him based on my experience with the modpack.

Really? Slimes are hostile mobs, right?

Hostile mobs can't spawn on slabs, placed on the lower half of the block, glass, leaves, or snow cover(not block). There's probably other things that work, as well as modded versions of those things that don't work.

I know about the Filler lag bug, I still didn't figure out why it happens, I tried to mitigate the issue somewhat in 6.2.0 but it's far from being fixed - will try for 6.2.1.

Yep really. I thought slimes were peaceful mobs, but you're right, they are hostile.

I think the issue might be light levels?

"Slimes spawn throughout the world (except mushroom islands) below layer 40 regardless of light level, but only in certain chunks, 1 in 10 of all chunks."

We're talking "chandeliers" and "torches", so perhaps slimes ignore them because those items might be fiddling with light levels (behind the scenes) to prevent hostile mob spawns? I'm not certain, that's just my guess.

I'd say the problem most likely isn't with the modpack, but with the mod (Buildcraft) instead. You'd probably know better than me tho.

Slime spawns don't care about light levels, which is why they spawn so often in superflat even during the day. Slimes are very weird mobs because things behave oddly to them, such as magnum torch not stopping their spawning and last I checked medium and small slimes could hop over Thaumcraft's Paving stone of warding.

are the slimes spawning from pneumaticcraft slime seeds? if so, play with botania a little bit. make a horn of the wild and a magnet ring, and have tons of fun, and upgrade your plantlife chest.

The area is out of range for the torch probably.
