For Meteorcraft, what level of power do we need for the meteor defense guns, and do they need to be in open air to work? Also, in the config, is the meteor rarity what decides how long it takes to spawn them? Then does that mean 72000 is equal to one hour IRL or? and how exactly does the meteor radar work once you feed it power?

General advice: Do not post four months after I mention something "yesterday" and then get confused when you do not find it. That post is now buried something like 200 pages back. Use the thread's search function.

sorry.. just started playing monster pack in last 30 days so did not have a reason to look for this item :) and did use the search.. never showed for me..
did look at the pictures you had of the radar and was on a coil.. set up 1 and did not see nothing happen.. like meteor craft.. just thought the additional items be nice to toy with since the MFFS system dont 100% stop the meteors . have had 3 or 4 go threw the shields already. actually surprised not seen a book to the items like in rotarycraft.

The radar only does anything when a meteor hits within its range, which is determined by the power input.

And you're being a dick.

You've joined a grand group of people who;d rather put more effort into writing something like this, than to get over yourself and just answer the question plain and simple, which would've been easier for you.

And to these guys' defense, there does not to seem to be easily accessible information on the defense system for MeteorCraft. I had expected better than to find the author of so many good mods replying like this, to a person who stated they made an effort and has not been offensive to you in any way in their inquiries.

/golfclap

/edit: Yea, I get annoyed at people sometimes when they comment and ask what the song in my video is e.g., and while it's clearly in the video description, I sometimes reply like a dick. But at the end of the day, when it's too late, I go back and edit the reply because I'm not a dick and it would've been less effort to tell the song and point to the video description. I'm a work in progress and I try to better myself. So I'd like to try to point out how I perceive your replies here. Plus, this is being a top hit on google about the issue and not your post in the official thread, and there's nothing in http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1969694-, even searching for the most common terms "defense gun" or "meteor", that answers this question. You're not as swell as your little signature banner with quotes make you seem. Have a nice day.

Let help you out with articulating this next time:
  • "I think that was unnecessarily impolite of you."
  • "I'm sorry you feel that way but I think there's a gap in finding information on this topic and maybe we're just hoping for something more recent"
  • etc.
"You're a dick" not only escalates the slapfightiness of a poster, but has no real constructive value and violates our forum rules. I'm glad you acknowledge that you get annoyed and stuff, but my recommendation is to not do this in the first place and to use your edit to actually fix such things if you recognize you have done it otherwise. This is your informal "get it together" post, after this I'm obliged to drop anvils because we have expectations around here on how people treat one another.

Now let me help you with a perspective of why people give answers like that:
  • Because time is finite and the answer's already there.
  • Because in this day and age so many people can't seem to actually work a forum search function and this is how you drive people towards doing that.
  • Because getting attacked from all sides from people who seem to think you should be some kind of well paid customer service rep rather than an engineer/coder/designer, day in and day out, is ridiculously grating.
I don't know. I see Reika's replies and go "yep, engineering type there." I've worked with/managed/supervised several over the years, and he's very mild and compassionate as those folks tend to go, particularly as much as people seem to want to put him in a cage and poke him with sticks. Maybe if people would go into this with an eye to achieve their aims rather than just to poke the dragon, and to not take it personally when he makes you do a little research and work for yourselves, it'd be happier all around. The journey of discovery seems to be a theme with a lot of his stuff, and so it's totally a consistent attitude in my book.

Well, I fell for it again and contrary to my intent, ended up being unhelpful. After a night's sleep, I can see where I could have chosen better words, but it's pretty late to edit that away now and pretend it's never happened, and my intent was never to escalate, to insult, or to provoke. And I have no illusion of any mod maker being a paid representative, who owes me or anyone to be their personal customer support ;)

So I was wondering if someone could fill this gap of information that others and I find ourselves in, about how the meteor radar is supposed to work, that is... what should expected to happen when it receives what amount of shaft power and a meteor is about o fall? Like, does it emit a redstone signal, can it display something on a RotaryCraft display screen placed above, or? And the shaft power requirements of the tiers of defense guns while RotaryCraft is installed, assuming they don't need any when not, and therefore more expensive to craft.

Unfortunately there's no ingame manual and they're not included in the RotaryCraft handbook, whereas that mod is optional to make these blocks require shaft power in the first place, as stated on MeteorCraft's web page, and I was unable to find the mentioned post in the official thread yet. Thank you.

Very well said....Don't they do enough already just making, maintaining, and updating the mod for us?

One meter per kilowatt and 524 kW per tier.

Again, I already admitted that my reaction in the form it had taken was somewhat uncalled for, and I apoligised for it, and I'd apologise again if necessary.

Earlier today I found the post that had been mentioned, trying to find it again at this time yielded no result though. The current search function on the Curse forum might limit results or might be otherwise unreliable at this time. As I had mentioned, searching for "meteor" yielded no result, and right now and don't get a result on any terms like "defence gun", "radar", or "per tier", which are very specific and just searching "the current thread", would not get me [http://www.minecraftforum.net/forum...rldgen-civilization-and-more?comment=6094]the post you'd be looking for[/url] to get at least a rough answer. But I think it should, all of these terms fit the post, but I only get 2 maybe 4 results that are not it.

So, there we go. Curse forum search tool, maybe not at its best form at the moment. It's sad enough that I feel increasingly guilty for what I whipped up, after reading some posts that float about.

I can confirm the search has not worked properly since the redesign.

No problem, don't worry about it :).

Things went a bit awry. I was a bit upset at first but I don't really have hard feelings towards anyone, and I'd expect that Reika has not either, and maybe even understood the notion I was coming from, some time in the middle of the night looking for stuff. I'd like to believe that neither one of us was really at fault after all, and some software failed to provide others and me with the answer that was indeed there in the way he then provided again.

Since then I found that the Meteor Radar shows a text message in chat when it detect a meteor shortly before it impacts. It will not warn you in advance, but provide you with the coordinates within 1kW per metre distance, minus 16kW base power required(?) (so 64kW power provided would make the radar show distances of up to 48 blocks/metres away). And tiers 0, 1, and 2 defense guns need 524kW, 1MW, and 1.5MW (or 2MW?) respectively to function. Whether higher tiers fire faster or have farther range, I can't tell from the information provided. They shoot the meteors and make it rain blocks like during a default meteor shower, and not vaporate the meteors.

I actually went into building it after the inevitable happened. A meteor lodged itself into my house, a rather big one, too. Was quite funny. The free resources raining from the sky had finally claimed a toll, haha :)

All correct my point was that, By coming in here and doing nothing but being unhelpful when someone else tries to do the right thing and search, threads like this clog up the search and then you add a prominent name like Reika to it and were do you think every single search result will end up. At a useless squabble.

On a more productive note, I kind of wish the meteors could be set to a chance instead of time, My idea when looking at this mod was to set it to extremely low and make it more like a real life meteor, Not for resources but to put the fear of god into me.

Back when that reply was made, the search function was working normally.

They do use a random chance....

That's my entire point Reika, If its working normally as it seemed to for me, Instead of being brought to actual information I get brought here, Happens at least half the time I search for something it gets extremely annoying and in fact leads to more of these threads being created because the information required gets buried.

Hmm very odd, In my config it would only let me set a timeframe for them in ticks no chance, Guess I will look into sure I did something stupid.
