As Minecraft has already made its foray onto the X-Box 360 via the XBOX Live Arcade store, I was wondering if there was any thought of Feed the Beast ever making its way onto any of the newer consoles in the foreseeable future, seeing as how they have more than enough power to run the bigger mod packs.
I am not a modder, nor am I a programmer (sometimes I find it a wonder I can even tie my shoes and chew gum at the same time), but I think the idea is fantastic.
I love FTB, love the mod packs and think the modding community is pretty incredible. FTB on the newer consoles seems like a match made in heaven! :)

Just a curiosity.

Not going to happen for many reasons.

1. Consoles like PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are closed platforms that can't be modded or tinkered with.
2. Mods directly compete with DLC for console games. Something that console game developers do not like.
3. Many mods nowadays use almost every key and function of the mouse and keyboard for every kind of function. Can you imagine trying to translate the controls for every possible FTB mod to a gamepad for a console let alone the PC? It's very likely such a thing would be impossible.
4. I thought I read that Minecraft FTB requires a minimum of at least 3 GB of dedicated RAM to run it. Perhaps even more for an optimum experience. The only consoles that could come close to providing that kind of RAM could be the x86-based PS4 and Xbox One, but I am not sure how those dedicate their own RAM and I am not sure if FTB could work even on those.

The problem with mods on consoles is that boobs exist and those are the first things people would mod into games if consoles were moddable. And we know the big game developers dont want that, thered be an absolute uproar by the media who remains offensively ignorant when it comes to videogames.

It didn't happen to minecraft PC edition, so I don't quite see your point... and your aren't forced to play with mods...

I think mods on consoles would be great but once you open that door, people are going to start removing clothes from characters in other games. Thats why its never going to happen.

Setting aside the fact that Minecraft console is barely playable (and, as mentioned, mods add many more hotkeys), on the XBox at least it cost a non-trivial amount of money to upload a file of any type, even patches. If memory serves, it's something like $10k, but don't quote me on that. So no, Minecraft mods aren't going to happen on console.

The only way I could see mods on consoles working is if they worked the same way as skins on consoles do, i.e you are limited to what is given to you, and you have to pay for it, basically having some of the main FTB packs be DLC for console MC.

I'm not sure that would work either, definitely a good idea
But the thing is people would download it in ignorance, and then complain why their game is running slow.

I've always wished to see the day where consoles could have mod support, but I see it working the same way as how Steam Workshop works. Developers could probably voluntarily add any sort of game workshop support to their console games and then allow for modders to make custom blocks, texture packs, characters, mobs, and so much more. However, there wouldn't be a guarentee that every console game will have mod support and that there will be some pretty strict rules from first and third-parties about how mods should be developed, what resources people are allowed to work with, and whether or not if they're going to allow copyright content on them.

A couple issue's I'd like too point out right now,

1. You would have to get licensing from Sony/Microsoft + the company that is actually making the version of Minecraft for each console.
2. They are not actually programmed in pure Java, xbox version is C#, and the PS3 version from what I understand is a combo of C/Java.
3. you would have to figure out how to allow other players to modify the minecraft files with-in their console.

and that just get's you started with it, never mind the fact you would have to figure out how too De-ob, De-Compile the respective code bases, then port forge into them.

And a few other things I just realized..

The console versions of, minecraft are older versions, so technically you would have better luck creating your own modding API.

And about the whole Memory thing,

You have more, control over how consoles dedicate RAM/CPU on a console then your do on a PC, this is due to the fact that consoles are basically all the same for that generation, there might be minor differences in style of RAM/CPU but that one console will run a Day 1 Release the same as a Day 1 release console,(there might be some minor speed differences)

This is the big problem with doing PC development you have so many different kinds of Hardware combinations that are possible, that it's impossible to make a 100% effiecient engine for all, combinations
