I tried to create a Direwolf20 1.6.4 server on my mac (OS 10.8.5) and I got the following error message.

[INFO] Starting minecraft server version 1.6.4
[INFO] Loading properties
[INFO] Default game type: SURVIVAL
[INFO] Generating keypair
[INFO] Starting Minecraft server on *:25565
[WARNING] **** FAILED TO BIND TO PORT!
[WARNING] The exception was: {0}
[WARNING] Perhaps a server is already running on that port?

I don't have any other servers running as far as I know. Please help! Thanks in advance.

Something is definitely takeing up the port for sure, doesn't have to be minecraft. In servers only 1 thing can use 1 port at the same time.

Try this

netstat -plten |grep java

or netstat -plten

And kill whatever is using port 25565 by its PID

Thank you for your response. I entered that code, but it said "unknown or uninstrumented protocol", and there is nothing running on port 25565. Could there be any other cause of this error?
