just started playing with the extra utilities stuff on the 1.5.1 beta, and im in love with the pipes, for some things even more than the AE network stuff. im using the same pipe network for liquids and automation of charcoal production. anybody else have a somewhat cool creation?

I just boxed myself into a full on green screen room. It was horrible.

In all seriousness though the pipes are great, I used them to help with bee item processing in another world and who can say no to pipes that discretely pull from an inventory. I agree that in some cases they are more useful than AE, although I would probably say that in most cases I don't use AE anymore. I really like AE but I just didn't like the idea of having buses on everything. Now I tend to build a couple of ME cable trunk lines between the different areas of production in my base and use a combination of buildcraft, extrautilites and a couple of other things. Ender chests with storage buses attached is something I have gotten into as well.

yeah i only use AE really for the actual storage. the transport i seem to prefer other mods

Same.

I personally use the extra utilities nodes in quite a few places, most notably bees and biofuel production.

I love 'em cause they behave in a "push" manner, they act as a ... hm, long inventory and just push into the first, second, etc output as there is space.

This is great for setups which you wand constantly full. Or for systems which you want to back up to either bring it to a complete halt(my bees), or as a sort of a valve which'll push the overflow to further processing while still keeping the first system the primary receiver which'll always fill up once a slot opens(my biofuel).

The nicest thing is that there's no random "do I take this path? Naaawwww, I don't think so" nor no silly "I'm so smart hurhurhur, Imma go there! Oh, it's full, let me back up and go somewhere where I don't belong"

That's how I like my transport systems. No timers, no loops, no inventory balancing, no nothing, just a plain and simple "if space then goTo(space) else goTo(elsewhere)".
