Ex Nihilo worldgen confusion

I've posted about this in the ExN thread on the MC forums, very reluctantly sent a PM to the creator of the mod (I hate bugging mod devs), and no joy. Maybe one of you guys can help me.

In Agrarian Skies, if you create a new map without downloading the platform/island, you get a void world. This was because Jadedcat set the configs from ExN to generate a void world. I assumed that I could do the same thing in 1.7.10 using Ex Nihilo. I've put together a modpack I want to play as a skyblock, but I need biomes to generate. This is something I cannot do using a superflat preset without also going in and painting a bunch of biomes in using WorldPainter. But when I set the overworld to generate as a void in the ExN configs, I get normal worldgen. I've tried multiple versions of Forge, too.

If the ExN thing no longer works (I've discovered config options in other 1.7.10 mods that have no effect, for example, and were confirmed to no longer have an effect by mod devs) I would like to know so I can just stop trying to make it work.

Bonus question: Is anyone aware of any other 1.7.10 mods that generate void worlds with biomes?

Well in my case, I had many succesful biomefull ex nihilo void generation (whut!)

What versions of ex nihilo? And humm, stupid question, did you save the configs?

And it's not generating new world properly? Remove the mod, delete the config, load the game, and readd it
That fixed my problem with it once, maybe it can work for you
Also, I know for a fact that 1222 and 1225 for forge works, might want to try them
