Electrical engines - in my experience - don't explode. They can however go into cool-down. I suggest using redstone energy conduits instead of chaining your engines, to be rid of that as well- and completely. They're also way more efficient than either connecting your machines directly to engines or using conductive pipes. Try it, you won't look back.
Another good thing about the electric engines is that you can either boost or choke them with a solider gun, circuit board and a vacuum tube. You'll fall in love with them if you really give them a chance.
