I used to play Feed the Beast about 5 months ago and I always used solar panels as a way of generating EU but then they changed the Advanced Solar Panel crafting recipe to require iridium and I started getting into Feed the Beast again, so I was wondering what alternative ways are there of consistent power? I've been testing a Wheat Farm powered by Biogas engines, which would run the farm, combine, and fermenter and then supply itself and then have left over Biogas. I may do that, but what other methods are there that are consistent and fairly easy to do early on in the game? I know there are things like using soul shards and scrapping the items dropped from the mob and burn those in a generator, but I feel like that won't do much good. Any tips?

you have been the victim of gregtech, an addon to IC2 which makes everything more late game than standard IC2 stuff

either go into the configs to disable hard recipes or use a pack without gregtech

GregTech does NOT touch the advanced solars recipe.

Why do so bloody many people think that!!?!??!?!??

The new recipe was set by Sentimental, whom you may know is the developer of Gravisuit, and Advanced solars.

Thermal generators are a good start. You can get the netherack/lava from the nether with an ender chest.

The earliest game production is a generator. They burn anything that can fuel a furnace, and produces EU from it

Those can be set-up with automation if you really want to do that, a simple tree farm feeding these will give you plenty of power for early game

A generator would be the earliest EU setup but I'd also recommend the thermal generator for multiple reasons. It's usually not that hard to find some lava, by the time you've burned through the lava you've found the thermal gen is going to be obsolete anyway, they're not too costly to make, and they can be automated. However if you were going into MJ, earliest would be clockwork engine and you could go the TE route.

I'm still waiting for people to blame Greg for the nerfs to Steve's Carts treefarms and whatnot.

On topic: Steam turbines work if you have ungodly amount of steel. Or you can just powerconverters your way to steam powered EU generation with boilers. I personally think most of the high end Gtech generators are not worth the bother and you can just have a few dozen Thermal Generators if you're willing to pump lava.

I stick with regular old generators from early game to late game, but then I've lately been going into factorization power first so I can make routers. With a router, you can feed four 40 tall stacks of generators around a glass fiber cable down the middle for 1600 eu/t per tower power. Just hook up to your favorite renewable burnable fuel solution. Beats the pants off trying to get the resources together for several ultimate panels or managing remote pumping stations.
