Essential mods/Mods you can go without

I never really got too much into any of the cart/train mods myself. Minecraft just doesn't have any resources vast enough to warrant setting up a track and stations to move around. What I mean is, there's little point in spending three hours building a rail track to haul oil from a well that will deplete in an hour. Now if there was a "realistic" source of something that could last for days or weeks, that could be something worth investing in. As far as moving carts through portals, if you're doing that, might as well just use enderchests or teleport pipes.

One mod I can't imagine playing MC without is InvTweaks. Even when playing vanilla I always install it. Moving all items at the same time or automatically sorting inventories is simply priceless.

Could do without:

Factorization (except for the barrels!)

Advanced Solar Panels

I could never go without gregtech,forestry, and red power. Twilight forest is also something that could be hard to get away from!
Could get rid of Ender Storage, Advanced Solars, and Steve's Carts (that tree farm takes the spotlight away form my PERFECT FORESTRY FARM).
