I have just upgraded to windows 8 and get this error when trying to load yogscraft. I have up to date drivers installed already. I have also tried running the file in windows 7 compatibility mode that doesn't work either.

Also it keeps saying that the minecraft servers may be unavailable and asks if I want to play offline.

Any advice on how I can sort either issue would be appreciated.

Minecraft was unable to start because it failed to find an accelerated OpenGL mode.
Make sure you have the windows 8 driver. I'm not sure if it matters like it did in previous windows updates, but in some versions drivers need to be for a certain version of windows. There is an option to disable Advanced OpenGL try that. Also if you have Optifine installed try disabling it to see if it fixes it.

As for the servers being down at the moment the Mojang help site shows all green for me. Check the console log for 'Address is invalid on local machine', or 'port is not valid on remote machine' if it does try this fix.

How can you disable Advanced OpenGL? Also the drivers are for Windows 8.

Any other ideas? Still have the issue

Does the crash happen when you start minecraft or when you start a world? If it is when you start a world you can selected before you start the world in the Video options. I'm sure there is a way to set it back if you cannot start minecraft itself, but I cannot find it. If you are up for it backup your saves and configs and reinstall according to this recommended guide. This will set the video options back to default and hopefully fix the Java error if it is not a driver issue.
