Engines not working

Boy, am I missing RP2... So, I am trying to wire up three engines by running redstone dust under them. If I use three levers, it works as expected. Does anyone see what I've done wrong? I haven't done vanilla redstone wiring in ages...

Or have I been a retard and missed a good replacement for red alloy wiring?

Rednet cables work fine.

Rednet cabling from MFR is a good red alloy wire replacement. It works like jacketed (free standing) bundled cable.

Yea, you can't run redstone that way. It's not actually connected to the engines.

As others say, use MFR Rednet.

This video goes over it. Watch the other videos too, if you like - but this one covers rednet and the programmable controller specifically.

It might work if you place the redstone behind the engines, where the water pipes are connected. Just run the water pipes under and connect from the bottom.

Try redstone directly behind the engines, and if that doesn't work, place a block directly behind the engine (dirt or cobble) and place the redstone on top of that.

In addition to the ideas above you could place a gate in each of the wooden pipes and set it to always emit a redstone signal.

The way redstone works, it only powers the block below it, and that block powers things next to it. The redstone powers the block underneath it, which powers the blocks beside that powered block. The redstone itself doesn't power everything adjacent to it.

If you want to use vanilla redstone mechanics, you could move the water pipe below and the redstone to where the water pipe is now. Or if you really wanted to power from below, you could place redstone torches against the side of the dirt blocks below the water pipe, then repeaters going into those blocks and redstone dust going into those repeaters tied to a lever (but then this solution would be running into your pool of water).

The easiest way is to switch out the Redstone with the Waterproof Pipes. You should even have one spare pipe after switching it around.
