EnderIO Powered Spawner

Hey everyone, I had one small question regarding the EnderIO powered spawner. What is the range that it will spawn mobs in? I currently have it set in the ground at the the center of a 5x5 square but they still seem to spawn outside the area, or sometimes not at all... I just wanted to check and see what the range was so that I can make sure they aren't just spawning in another room or even above my base.
