Ender Tanks turning into chests.

Just before descending on me, please note that I still have to experience this myself - so I'm quoting here!

A player on the server I manage just posted the below. He's a very experienced FTB player and not the kind that would post nonsense unless he's pretty sure about it.

A warning you guys might already be aware of!

Be careful with Ender Tanks. Placing TE pipes on them or vice versa chucks you out and turns it into an Ender Chest, bizarrely. Don't think it causes any damage to the server, but you're losing a Tank.

Doesn't seem to always be the case, but it's a good 50/50 chance.

Does this ring a bell to anyone?

I think it happened to me once sometime, but i have no idea in what circumstances.

Code wise Ender Chests and Tanks share the same ID, but with different metadata. So if something happens to reset metadata of a tank to 0 it would probably turn into a chest.

Or something.
