so playing with magic crops, i was wondering how to get essence crops going. no recipe for essence seeds...hmmm. so quick look on the wiki..you have to get them from chopping grass. oh really.....

so I was like...nope. note that I am using magic crops in Monster pack, which means you do not get extra seeds when harvesting, which is why im posting this ;)

i give you: the grass anihilator. it is literally just a mfr harvester with a +1 upgrade, autonomous activator filled with bonemeal, and a way to transport the harvester drops to whatever you do to store your stuff. and a power source of course. the harvestor will keep mowing the grass and flowers, the activator keeps it growing until it runs out. with just a few stacks of bonemeal, i saw 12-15 essence seeds. feed it with bonemeal from a skeleton mob farm, grow a skeleton soul crop, pulverize wool from a sheep farm (if you disable the nerf for wool in pulverizer, that is ;) ), etc. this will net you many types of seeds as well. I have natura, bop, twighlight forest, mystcraft, agriculture all disabled, so i only see the food crops from magic crop, essence seeds, normal seeds and flowers, but i bet all the above mods will add in way more stuff

Don't know what the issue is; essence seeds aren't exactly rare, and the plant always drops a seed, and has a chance to drop a second seed too.

not an issue really, just thought it was a cool way to get them...i think by default they dont drop extra seed tho...not unless you tweak the config to do so.

It's a low chance, but it's the same as any other magical crop giving a extra seed.
Maybe they don't by default in whatever pack you're using, but in the mod itself, yeah, it has a chance.

Set up an Aqueous Accumulator with a Sprinkler on top. No need to supply water to the Accumulator. Although slower than straight bonemeal the sprinkler can cause grass to grow.

ya monster by default is no extras. i did play with this in horizons when it was first released and i was getting the extra seeds. but thats ok, that forces people to do things like this to get the crops started ;) and keeps things simple like not having to worry about excess seeds in overstuffed planters, etc ;)

@Drawde : hmmm, will have to play with that.

Pfft I think its neato :) I don't have extra seed drops on my pack, and I'm interested in ways to get more![DOUBLEPOST=1397656395][/DOUBLEPOST]I wonder what a half-decent Horizons equivalent would be, with no MFR. I'd love to figure out Magical Crops automation in Horizons in general (with TC4 removed btw)

also let me make this clear, i think people are misunderstanding what this is for: this is for essence dust crops...not all the other crops. the only way to get the seeds for essence dust crops is to cut grass

@Pyure : i did do some automation in horizons, using the flood gate method (dispensers with water buckets) but i had nothing to speed up the growing of the crops. i figured that was ok, the extra seed drops helped in letting me grow even larger crops to offset the lack of speed growth ;)

I thought it was pretty clear, that's what I want too.

Automatic harvesting isn't actually too bad, its the re-planting that kills me. Having 1 Activator per plant makes me sad. There are silly ways to do it by making an Engineer's Toolbox socket into a bit of a planting-turtle but it was finnicky.

For faster growth, I've had very positive results using a rotarycraft fertilizer.

was about to say...you really need tc golems to do that then...but you removed it :p
Yeah everyone swears by golems but I just cannot get into TC; I'm a techy at heart :\

I wonder if rotary fans handle them any better in the later versions (doubt it)

Thing is, golems are actually pretty easy to get into, if you have the research completed, anyway. And TC 4.1 made it that much easier to dive into a specific field of research.
Not saying that TC is for everyone... but it's gotten much better, and I hope to get people to give it another chance.

Fair nuff, one day I'll try it again. So much worldgen tho I'd hate to just inject it into my Horizons world

It adds very little actually, all in all. Two types of trees, and 8 ores, 6 of which are variants of one ore, and a biome that isn't as big of a deal as it could have been. Oh, and a villager.

Dammit YX33A what's your definition of "a lot of worldgen" for one mod then :p

Overlapping ore types for no real reason(copper/tin come to mind), or a flood of trees, even if there is only one new kind(IC2 rubberwood comes to mind, but Natura doesn't), or tons of new biomes when none are really needed(TC 4 has a magical forest that isn't really needed, but does help for those first few mana beans if you can't locate a pech to trade with).

But 8 ores, but only 3 unique kinds of ores, two types of trees that are kinda rare in their own ways, a villager type, and a new biome that can be ignored during world gen since it can be created anywhere you wish with a few saplings from one of those trees? Not a lot to me.

The TC worldgen I hate the most is Tainted lands biomes. On top of everything, it looks horrible in Opis. Everything else is fine, but I usually disable tainted land in the config.

Back to the main topic, some mobs provide a bonemealing effect, well at least the ents from Witchery do. Try penning one in (with despawning prevention) and they might provide free bonemealing effect quite regularly. I have not tried this myself but it could work nicely.

Its not so much the taint itself, it is the contrast with the surrounding biomes and it looks like an ugly patchwork quilt. The colour and aesthetic of the actual biome itself is as nice as you can expect from a mod as aesthetically pleasing as Thaumcraft, it just never fits in nicely with the surrounding terrain (perhaps thats the point, but I just turn it off :))
