My brother and I have recently set up a wither skeleton spawner and started farming nether stars, Seeing as we both already have portal guns and I need the ender dragon egg for bees, we decided to make a ton of beacons.

Now, we didn't want to eat up all our iron on pyramids so we did a little testing. Long story short, it turns out aluminum blocks, aluminum blocks, and nickel blocks all work as pyramid fodder. We have yet to try any other blocks.

I'm not sure if this had any effects on the results, but to do the test, we first set up the beacon on a 3 by 3 layer of iron blocks, chose our effect, and inserted our payment. We then broke the iron blocks and replaced them with the other blocks.

I couldn't find any documentation on thes phenomenon so I decided to post it here before editing the wiki.

The blocks don't matter. Neither does the input.

Just use whatever block is cheapest, and whatever mineral you have the most of.

I could have swore some worked better, though, but I never tested that part of Thaumcraft.

Does that mean you could make a pyramid out of leaves and feed it chestnuts? Or did you just not read my post?

Beacons are vanilla.

There are blocks in Thaumcraft which apparently relate to Becons, though. They're the arcane wood and arcane stone blocks.

I meant of the blocks and items that you can use, not all the items and blocks in the game.

There's no difference between using iron blocks or diamond blocks for a beacon, and the same goes for using iron or diamonds to activate it.

That's what I was referring to.

Me and my brother
*My brother and I

Sorry, I couldn't resist.
Easy way to remember: Remove the other person from the sentence. So for example, here it would be "Me just set up a wither skeleton spawner" which of course is wrong, it should be "I just set up a wither skeleton spawner" which means when you add the brother back in it makes "My brother and I just set up a wither skeleton spawner".

Yes, I'm a jerk/grammar nazi/whatever. Yup.

And, I'm sure you already knew this, but you can use the same pyramid for several beacons if you make it slightly larger and save on space/blocks :D

have you tried it with 2 layers in the pyramid?
Yes, it still works

Ok, you never actually said that in your first post, and the page for beacons only lists iron, gold, diamond, and emerald blocks.

Fixed

So is there a list of all the useable blocks anywhere?
