I had this idea about handpowered pump/well thing. The GUI would have a slot for string and one for a bucket. Although, cells and capsules can be there too. (And glass bottles, assuming you're pumping water.)

Each string = 1-2 blocks of where you can retrieve liquid from. (Or more, as it's early game and string is slightly hard to obtain) then you put the bucket in and exit the GUI.
Then rightclick it for it to drop into the liquid, and again to pull up. Then retrieve bucket.

Cells/bottles/capsules have a minor chance not to fill. (Unless they added "half full cells/bottles/capsules."

I'd love a new early game powered by man. It'd be cool if you could have a minecart where you got in, and rightclicked it'd push the one in front of it.

Tell me your ideas, yeah?

Wait, that is a pump connected to a tank with a chest full of bottles by the side that you power with a clockwork engine.

That would be nifty, though I'm not sure where retrieving one bucket at a time would be any more practical than just scooping up the liquids yourself.

I was thinking this would be something like... a block that functions similarly to the buildcraft pump, except that it's powered by a handcrank. Maybe have three GUI slots, and have it allow you to slap in a stack of cells, and get back a stack of filled cells in the third slot after you've finished the cranking. Or something like that, anyways. I can think of more than one occasion where I wished I had an early game method to move large amounts of standing liquids relatively quickly.

In the nether or something?

I suppose your idea is better.

I suppose what I'm thinking of is like the Quartz Grindstone version of pumping liquids. Accomplishes the same goal, but just requires manual labor to achieve it.

The Nether is one, but I was also thinking of Oil. A lot of people don't use Oil in the early game, since you can't refine it yet, but I bet some people wished they were able to just plop a pump down in the middle of nowhere, crank it for awhile, and end up with a stack or two of oil cells.

I used to play Better than Wolves and I don't wanna see a handcrank again, ever.
Yes you dooooooooooooooo
I used to play BTW, back when it sorta worked with Forge. Fuck I miss my Handcrack. Sure, I could use water mills or wind mills to automate my shit, but seriously, that's LAME. Automation of really fucking easy tasks strikes me as a level of douche I can scarce describe. I mean, it's kind of why I pitted everyone automating their quartz grindstones. Because damn, thats really fucking lazy. I want more mods to add tings like the Handcrank and Quartz Grindstone. And even more "fun" "features" like the Clockwork Engines "in" the "new" "Forestry". Because as you all should know by now, real men power quarries with NOTHING MORE THEN BLOOD SWEAT TEARS AND CARPEL TUNNEL SYNDROME!
...Oh man, I have to show y'all my Matter Fabricator room. ...as soon as I find enough fucking Iridium...

I guess you're talking about the old BtW, pre-hardcore hunger, pre-hardcore bucket and pre-all the other nerfs that FC came up with to make the players' lives miserable. Every item in the mill takes 3 moves on the handcrank, this will make you lose one meat thingie on the hunger bar. You better set up some automation or you WILL starve to death.

My last venture into BtW ended pretty quick and I returned to the loving atmosphere of FTB.

Did you try to die? That one is fun. Not that it's hard to die now.

I tried not to die, didn't work. I died and respawned 1500 blocks from original spawn. I found my way back though, thanks to my old friend Rei and his minimap.

Basicly FC is the Vechs of modders and BtW is Super Hostile.

FC is not..

Well liked..

On Technic Forums
Or anywhere really.
I respect her decision, even if I think she's a fucking retard for it. That being said, FC burned a LOT of bridges, and did so REALLY FAST. And many are upset she didn't die from all the smoke inhalation it seems.

That being said, I personally think she should try and remove ALL OF HER BASE CLASS EDITS, even if she's refusing to use Forge. I think people who rely on Base Class Edits really must be missing a few chromosomes or something. Maybe even one of their helix.

For the cost of a couple of ender pearls and some stone and iron, you can create a RP2 system that will automatically scoop buckets for you and retrieve them from a small set of pipes or tubes. I understand that you may want something "man-powered", but most would gravitate to something like this system rather than man powered given that it is pretty darn cheap and they don't have to spend time to do it.

Look behind you
I think that's what YX33A's talking about, you see, he says some people want to truly work for their output, not let it sit there and do it automatically. Personally, I think, for early game, it is a good idea for a hand pump. Also, I personally wouldn't call ender pearls, iron, and the brass needed for tubes early game...
