I'm trying to use the Botania Inkwells in my thaumcraft stuff, like I saw Dire do in his server-play and as indicated in the Lexica Botanica, but I can't get it to work.

I used a standard inkwell to build my research table, but putting the Botania Inkwell in the research table tells me it's out of ink... And holding it in my inventory while using the Thauminomicon likewise says I'm not holding ink and paper.

Is there an extra step to get this to work?

The Botania Inkwell uses mana I believe. Drop it into a mana pool that has mana. Wait a few moments and pick it back up. There should be a damage value that is different now. Use it as you would a regular inkwell.
