So I've been playing skyblock (edited to add in all the biomes semi near by) with the DW20 pack, with exnihilo and it's addon exaliquo, plus added in magical crops and Mekanism.

Gaining ore is slow going and right now I am trying to sort out what is the most cost efferent form of power generation I can go for for now. I'm trying to get into forestry bees but need to power the squeazer and all that once I get up there, plus hopefully a block breaker for the cobblestone.

So any ideas? What do you go for for your first means of power generation on a skyblock map?

Have you considered the generators from Extra Utilities? Specifically the survivalist's generator, or the furnace one.

I know you didn't ask about this, but if ore processing is a problem in the early game, try the AE grindstone.

Seconding using XU and the Survivalist Generator; that sucker may have a lower then normal RF output, but it has increased fuel efficiency making it great for early game RF(plus it's only cobblestone and a bit of iron to make, making it one of the easiest generators to make in a Skyblock world).

Ore processing isn't sn issue, just time consuming. exaliquo gives us a mini Tink Construct forge to double output at the start, it's just a matter of hammaring down cobble to gravel to sand to fine sand to shift to get random ore dusts to then join 4 of to get a block to smelt to get bars. (yeah starting to hope they add some form of automation x.x)

Never poked with the XU generators, do they run off normal cables to wire up to machines?

Yes, that they do. There are also Energy Transfer Nodes in XU, but they aren't cheap, though at least you only need them for the input/output locations as normal XU transfer pipes work with them(and more).
(also the ex aliquo mini-smeltery is disabled by default, you should double check if it's enabled)

It's enabled, I have a few working away right now. Alright, I have an idea of where to go now to start getting into more mods in skyblock. Thanks for the help, time to craft me a few batches of cheep generators XD
