So what houses are people building once they move out of their crashed ship?

I started work on "the mushroom" a couple days ago. It has 4 grinders facing outward in the base and uses the drops/mob essence to provide water and power to the dome. Steve's factory manager turns the composted dirt (from zombie flesh and string) into water and refills empty camel packs. Figure I'll add some smaller mushrooms for various activities.

You people disappoint me, where are all the Crash Landing bases? I know lots of people are playing the pack, surely there are plenty of you getting past day 2?

I got bored with my first world, started a 2nd one.

How does that mining laser transport ores down to your base?
That tesseract bringing in power is sending out items. Now that you don't need a separate channel for each transfer type you can make your builds much more compact.

Here's my little outpost.

2014-09-16_21.26.09.jpg

Building a simple stone wall around as a buffer instead of a pit setup. Pits have caused me more hassle then they have been worth.
Glowstone pillars along the walls, just because I could, and stops the spiders. Using my imagination, I think of it as an energy barrier.
At the back by the pyrthium is my cobble gen and current basic "ore processing", along with water gen and mossy cobble gen.
I get in and out along the fuel pod and a mini jumping staircase, stops mobs getting up, but easy for me.
Basically at the stage now where I need to raid the cities. Already trundled over to the closest and raided a couple of ground floors looting some basic stuff. Going to try setting up a chicken farm under my orange/apple trees, and got a ton of fruit saplings by bonemealing the grass.

omg, just noticed, I've misplaced a torch on my lookout tower.

My biggest problem is surviving the second day. I want to go out and collect more dust, but I never happen to hear the giant spider sitting on my roof.

I personally just cheat in some extra food and water at the start. The supplies you start with are very close to the line for survivability, but only if you are fast and efficient. Any interruption during this time will be a killer.
Once you've died a few times, just cheat in what you need. I also installed AromaBackup set to hourly backups which is a great help.

In the 1.1.2.1 update spiders are the biggest problem. I had to restart my world after losing mine above, and am finding 1.1.2.1 a bit easier in places with mobs. There are less mobs, but more spiders. So less zombie flesh (for early dirt), but more spider eyes (great for spider eye soup...).

I find that if I don’t get a crucible running asap for water I am toast, soon as I got that though, I'm set

I rater use dirt to dirty bottle to water bottle :) goes faster from the leaves part and more efficient (but uses fuel)

Oh and SFM to automate :D

Day 2 leaf crucible is better because it requires zero fuel/power. I only switch back to dirt when I have "free" power/fuel for the smelt step.

Didn't say it wasen't good, but i rater save on time then on fuel
1 water takes 200 ticks in a furnace while with a lava powered crucible, it's 500 ticks!
Then the time passed sheared vs the amount of extra wood you get IMHO i prefer the furnace, but the crucible is a viable way (and probably superior if using pyrothium but I am a sane person... Sometimes)
