Do you have a written description of features/etc? (I can't watch the video at the moment from where I am).

Features are what you see in the video, I'm adding more right now actually. To sum it up:
  • Automatic Donation Delivery after purchase
  • Re-send individual orders to donors
  • Do not send items if inventory is full
These features are on top of all WooCommerce features of course, which you can see here: WooCommerce

Current Features in Development:
  • Re-send individual items per-order (should be done today)
  • Donation Goals widget
  • Recent donation widget with player icons

Certainly going to check this out when I get home...might be exactly what I'm looking for. And if done well enough would be something I'd be willing to pay for...so to hear you are considering just open sourcing it would be awesome ;).

The community needs a nice donation plugin that isn't "enjin" :)

Wait, you're making people pay for items? Is that even legal?

Many server owners, including myself, ask their players to donate to the server in order to keep out-of-pocket expenses to a minimum. It's not a requirement, which is why most of us 'reward' our players for helping the server.

I should also note that some servers, mainly PVP, 'request' that their users pay for items that are normally available. They do this by limiting the availability of the item via permissions and allowing only 'donors' to acquire or use the item. This is why I run a white-list server, so nothing is banned and people only donate to either take a shortcut or help out the server.

If you donate you get items and probably perks in some plugins. It is perfectly legal
Edit: ninja'd by @Staxed
Yeah but the items aren't yours to restrict access to surely. If you did write the mod then it would be fine but what you are doing is selling something that someone else distributes for free, which may infringe the copyright some modders protect themselves with.

Either way, it's fine. People don't have to play on the server with donations on and I know I wouldn't if you are just trying to make me pay for a quarry. It's the players choice and if they want to use the plugin then it is their choice.

EDIT: If the items can be crafted normally that is fine but if you are restricting access it is worse. However I can understand that you don't want to pay for a large server so selling things like mystcraft ages or extra land might be a good idea.

@TheAwesomater Unfortunately some server owners let money cloud their judgement and restrict items in such a way. I've seen a lot of 'pay to win' donation setups.
Yeah as long as you don't actually restrict the tech tree I'm fine with it. Sorry for the confusion I was thinking that the items were locked until you donated, but that does not seem to be the case. In which case, good plugin, It is fair enough to let people pay if they want extra items.

I believe this is a discussion for a different thread (and there are already plenty of threads that have had that discussion over the past few years...)

How someone uses this mod shouldn't really be discussed in the mod thread. Fact is the mod is legal, there is nothing wrong with a server asking for donations from it's members to help support that server. (though I also agree with you that something like this shouldn't be used to restrict most items, other than things like chunk loaders/etc on large servers....things that can be hard on the server)

For those of you interested, it's now open-source. License is under GPL v2 which is WordPress compatible. I haven't had time tonight to setup install instructions, for those coders will know what to do. I hope to have the wiki setup soon :) Check the first post for more information.

- Happy coding.

Edit: Would a mod mind moving this to the appropriate section?

Sadly, those plugins are no longer allowed since Mojang started to actually enforce their EULA. It was never legal, Mojang just never punished anyone for it.

I honestly had no idea. I haven't really been in the donation area in a long time, haven't needed too as my white-list server is pretty small. I'll definitely have a look over the EULA and post relative links in the repository warning users of EULA violation possibilities. It does worry me though about the 'charge for access to another world' situation. If owners are forced to buy another server to provide a premium server versus making another world via some plugin like mystcraft and blocking access, some white-list fees may increase. Either way, that's not a conversation I would like to go into in this thread.

As it stands though, this system is still viable even with the new EULA. So I hope to see some getting use out of it. Without violating the new EULA :)

I'm not so sure about that.

Read that link again, this part says:
Can I sell “kits” for hard currency if I provide a balanced alternative for non-paying users?

If the “kits” contain gameplay-affecting features they are not allowed. Gameplay balance is not relevant to the EULA. If the items included in the kit are purely cosmetic, you can charge real money/hard currency.

which tells me if it's an item, aka. gameplay feature, you can't sell it for hard currency. it also states that you cannot sell soft currency for hard currency.

I thought it said that you could, but it also had to be earnable in-game.

My server features a currency that you can earn through gameplay, but which can also be bought for hard currency. Is that OK?

Soft currencies that are solely earned in-game are fine, but you cannot sell in-game currency for hard currency. Hybrid/dual currency systems are not allowed.
