Hi,

I've been trying to breed bees by using chocolate frames to lessen the time spent waiting, then swapping to soul frames just before the bee dies. Thing is, it doesn't seem like chocolate frames has any effect? According to my math, if I have a bee with the shortest lifespan trait, using 3 frames should knock out the bee in 2 ticks (10/2=5/2=2.5/2=1.25). However, it seems like it's still using 10 ticks?

Am i doing something wrong? I'm playing Unleashed recommended if that's of any use...

EDIT: More testing indicates that chocolate frames do speed things up a little, but nowhere near their advertised effect. Testing in alvearies with 6 frames and with standard rocky bees, it seems like the 6 frames roughly halve the lifespan of the bee.

Ok, now I'm confused. I inoculated a Fiendish-Frugal hybrid with the shortest lifespan trait and started breeding out the fiendish parts. What surprised me was, once the Frugal trait took over active, the time it took three chocolate frames to kill a bee greatly diminished. What is going on? I triple checked, and the bee had purebred shortest lifespan trait all around ...

EDIT: The frugal-fiendish bee took 5 ticks to die, while the fiendish-frugal took 10.

I can't answer the differences between frugal-fiendish and fiendish-frugal, but for the chocolate frames:
Check: http://wiki.feed-the-beast.com/Frames
Each chocolate frame (in MC 1.5.2) reduces the lifespan to 75% with a maximum total reduction of 50%. If you want lifespan reduction, you should use necrotic frames now. With the releases for MC 1.5.2 they got useful, since they don't manipulate the aura anymore.

There are also oblivion frames that kill off a bee in one tick. They're much too expensive to make but they can be found quite commonly in spoils bags if you have a good source (MFR autospawner for example) of those.

I guess another nerf in the bees "department". From this to dying princesses.

If your princesses are dying it is user error, not a nerf. Don't over-mutate, don't over stress with frames, don't use anything but top quality serums. I've had distilled princesses producing since around the first week the 1.5.x packs were released, no dead princesses.

IMHO extrabees needs some nerfs. The extrabees machines make it trivial to get any bee you want and max it stats.

The newest Forestry already did it by the new changes of 20% of the mix of bees in the "wild" to not have the "dying" trait while the rest do. Yo ucan get away with it in a Bee House just to get you started.

Oh, that is interesting. I was relying on some old threads for my info, and I guess I was just outdated. So if my math is correct, 3 choc frames should be the absolute max you'd need to use regardless of lifespan, to get the maximum effect? (for shortest, 10*.75*.75*.75 = 4.2, longest, 60*.75*.75*.75 = 25,3)

Thanks for the info on the Necro frames too! I'll definitely look into those.

3 choc frames have a total reduction of 50%, as stated above. So: shortest: 10*0.5 = 5; longest: 70*0.5=35. Using three necrotic frames on a longest bee: 70*0.3^3 = 1.89, so it will die after two bee-ticks.

Yet another pointless, unnecessary nerf. What will Binnie do when people are no longer using his mod because of how crap everything is now?
