Does buildcraft's gold conductive pipe have a range limit?

I've set up a quarry about 70-80 blocks from my refinery, and connected it to my combustion engines with gold conductive pipes. It only receives power really rarely for some reason, and I was wondering if there was a range limit. Can't use phased conductive pipes because I get a ticking tile entity.

Depends on your version ...

The behavior of conductive pipes has changed drastically in version 3.70. Pipes can no longer explode, and have no loss.

For 3.60 and below, gold pipes only lose 0.5% of their energy for every block traveled.
