It seems like they do, but I'm not sure.
I recently smoothed out every wall and corner of a cave with Microblocks, and I'm suddenly noticing lots of lag spikes.

I have a crappy computer, and I don't want to create any unnecessary lag for myself if I can help it.

As much as any tile entity, including such obscure things as furnaces.

People do tend to use them a hellovalot more than furnaces though. i.e., Mindcrack.

I'm now pretty sure that it's the Microblocks causing the lag; it only spikes when I'm facing them.
Dammit, now I have to take it all down >.<

Dude, I'm gonna have to start building with only furnaces. Too bad there's no stone door though.

I believe the camouflage chest from the secret rooms mod was actually made because people were using furnaces in their floors and ceilings as storage for items and it was creating lots of lag for servers, and also taking up a lot of memory in the level.dat file.

Try turning on Advanced Open Gl. If your video card supports it there is a chance your FPS will improve.
