Try to keep your questions in one thread.
And to answer your question, no. You don't have to install batteries on all 4 pieces of your armor. IMO , just one maxed out elite battery should be more than suffice if you have installed the Kinetic Generator in your leggings .

I've noticed that a redstone energy cell in inventory counts towards your power level and is recharged by kinetic/solar suit modules. It doesn't count as suit weight. :p

Since a properly designed powersuit is power positive, you could theoretically do with just one of the smallest batteries in one piece

Theoretically yes, but practically speaking no. You'll probably want to switch out your helmet for something else once in a while (Thaumcraft goggles) so you want a battery in your chest as well.

I'm paranoid and rich so I put a big battery in the helmet and minimum-size elite batteries in everything else. If I somehow lost everything except my boots I'd still have functional boots for a while.

The suits are also much more power-positive if your living space is open to the sky for solar. If you live like a mole then you might have to recharge it once in a while.

Same goes for an say... an ultimate energy cube (mekanism) which happens to be much much bigger.

There is a goggles of revealing module.

The Goggles of Revealing remain bugged. You can keep track of aura levels but you can't see nodes without the actual goggles from Thaumcraft.

Put the battery in your pants/trousers/leggings.
Helmets have some other uses, as you said.
Chestplates may need replaced for some odd reason.
Boots similar.
But you will never need any other leg armour.

Yeah, that's how it's supposed to work. I always just make a pair of them. One for the suit and one to enchant when I'm working thaumatically.

I know this applies to IC2 storage too, like lapotron crystals. Its a shame MFSUs don't retain their stored EU when you pick them up or you could use them as well :(
