Heya!

Last like 5 iterations of Ultimate ive been using interfaces with redpower sorting machines to input proper proportions into the carpenter in order to craft scented panelling.

Today i tried something different and it turned out well so i thought i would share:

1) Place an interface with scented panelling "processing" pattern next to carpenter(same as when automating processing in a macerator, etc)
2) Place an export bus in "single item/craft" mode on a chest and tell it to export scented panelling.

Thats all!

That's... how it has always worked? o_O

AE is designed from the ground up to be used this way. No sorting machines required!

the thing that bugs me about such setup is that when export bus set to crafting mode it can interfere with other crafting on the network.
golems are another option for such :)

The issue for me was that the export bus always filled the carpenter with wax, and didnt input the materials in the proper proportion.

After having that system running for a night ive found that if you dont have the resources for a full craft itll still input the items it does have, and then if the remaining item does not arrive quickly enough the process times out leaving some mats in the carpenter.

So its not as good as a solution as i've thought, but its better than having to craft a sorting machine...

How do you guys do it?

When you have the right Amount of Items on the Pattern, that should not happen. Sounds more like the AE Network getting resets trough Changing the Network. (Placing/breaking AE Objects, Dark Cable or Parts of the Network are not Chunkloaded)

The Crafting of Paneling and Alveary Blocks works great that way, but it can Plug the System with the Permanently Crafting. When your AE is Public, you should not do that without letting everyone know how to deactivate it.

All my base is chunkloaded tho (every single piece of cable).

You mean crafting operations dont have a timeout?

Also, shouldnt the network be able to craft more than 1 thing at a time if it has more than 1 crafting CPU? (i have 2 atm)

if you want to do this strictly with AE you can do this:
1 set your main(1st) network to send planks, pollen, and royal jelly to your secondary(2nd) network that will handle scented paneling crafting
2 set your carpenter with honey supply and storage bus that will store planks, pollen, and royal jelly. dont forget about means to collect planks from it.
3 set 4 export buses with 4 level emitters that will export planks, pollen, and royal jelly to your 1st network, when their quantity is more than, lets say a stack.

its not an elegant solution, but will work like a charm. although, as i previously said - use clay golems(1 advanced will handle that) to keep set number of items in carpenter.

i`ve been thinking a bit more and here is an improved version:
1 set your main(1st) network to send planks, pollen, and royal jelly to your secondary(2nd) network that will handle scented paneling crafting.
set an export bus for each item.
2 set your carpenter with honey supply and storage bus that will store planks, pollen, and royal jelly. dont forget about means to collect planks from it.
3 set 4 level emitter of 2nd network, that will shut down export buses of 1st network, when amount of items in 2nd network(carpenter) is more than. lets say. a stack.

Fill every inventory slot on the carpenter with at least one slot for each item, and set an export item on the carpenter to export planks, wax, jelly, and pollen. Then have AE or something else extract the finished panels. Then setup a honey feed and wait.

In that case a material will be replaced in the slot as soon as it runs out. If you run out of pollen for example the slot will be filled with wax or something and the system will get stuck.

Yep AE owns for most all automation, & with me-interface being able to hold X amount of items at a time, its near limitless what can be automated.[DOUBLEPOST=1372962445][/DOUBLEPOST]
an AE network can multitask with crafting as long as its in a separate machine.
true I find it best to have some items processed in one machine & a second doing others it helps stop bottle necks, like one furnace making glass another cooking dusts.
