Disabling Thaumic Energistics in FTB Infinity Evolved Server

Details of the issue:
Thaumic Energistics causes server instability. I'm aware the fix is to update Java, but that's not possible with our setup, so I figured I'd just disable Thaumic Energistics on the server by renaming its .jar file to a .jar.broken file, as Googling led me to believe that would cleanly disable it. Unfortunately, when I do so, the server hangs during startup while (possibly just after?) loading Agricraft. It doesn't stop the server or dump a crash file when this happens. Am I wrong about how to disable Thaumic Energistics? Does anything depend upon it, because it didn't seem like it. Thank you.​
