My serverprovider-admin now asks me, which of the modpacks are the best/funnies to play SMP on,

What do you guys vote for?
What are cons and pros of them?

Hello!

The main difference (besides a couple differences in mods) is that the mindcrack pack is designed to be the hardest possible modded experience (adds a TON of complexity/difficulty/challenge/tedium via gregtech).

DW20 pack is designed to his linking, and includes the mods in the unmodified state.

Mindcrack pack also has a couple mods im not familiar with like traincraft and the voxel stuff that could be causing a couple performance issues (dont know for sure tho).

I prefer DW20 because i find gregtech to add a lot of complexity and tedium, but for large servers it might be too easy, with people reaching the end game in a couple days.

I prefer mindcrack because it means on a multiplayer server you aren't at end tier in a few hours, but more like a few days/weeks before you are in the same spot (and then gregtechs extra tier to last you even longer). As I've heard there are a few settings missing on the mindcrack such as the thermal expansion not being on hardmode recipes, but it's still fun.

My vote goes to Mindcrack.

I like ExtraBees and GregTech, both of which are missing from DW20. I also have no intention to ever use Equivalent Exchange, to me it just looks and feels like cheating.
I do kinda miss Mystcraft, but I've read that it might be added in the future. I don't really care though, Mystcraft mostly makes the game easier.

With both packs I have a list of mods I disable and some mods I would like to see added (or add myself), so neither is a perfect pack for me. Ultimate will no doubt also have mods I don't like and miss mods I do like, but I think it has the biggest chance of including everything I like. If it doesn't add much or mostly mods I don't like I might stick with the Mindcrack pack though.

As for Voxelmodpack, I've never tried or looked into it, so I can't really judge that. I'm having a hard enough time learning about all the other mods already :p

I use the Mindcrack but have disabled some of the mods.

I'm looking forward to the tech pack to see what they pack in that one, I like techy mods more than the magic / fantasy ones

The Voxel pack is designed for Minecraft architects, for creative builds. It's world editing tools. It's not a gameplay mod pack.

Direwolf pack because Gregtech is a load of bollocks :)
Agreed there. It has some interesting bits but overall it is bollocks. Even some guys on the Mindcrack server seem put off by it, opting for buildcraft/thermalexpansion/forestry or redpower tech trees to provide the framework that gregtech screws up in ic2.
