Hello everybody,

first of all I want to excuse, if I'm posting this into the wrong section (just move it if necessary) :). I have an request for the Direwolf20 pack.

It would be nice if OptiFine could be distributed together with this pack. Without OF I have <20 FPS (bad GPU xD), after installation of Optifine i get over 70. A few minutes ago, I received an upadate for the mod pack so Optifine has gone and I had to reinstall it...

I know that there is a tutorial for adding OF into a mod pack at ftbwiki.org, but it is very annoying to re-add it after each update, and I also think that many players are scared of such a pack if the FPS are soo low. And I like the Direwolf pack very, very much :D

I'm interested about how you think about OF inside the DW pack (and possibly in other packs too).

Kind regards
Warrangota

P.S.: Sorry if my English is not the best, I'm German :)

Optifine is not included in any packs mainly for two reasons. One is the creator of optifine has set up the license of the mod to say that it may not be distributed in public packs(don't know where private packs land off the top of my head), therefore it would at best be breaking the mod creators rules and have bad publicity for one's pack, and at worst a legal battle over the event (which the minecraft community has never done even when this kind of stuff happens, although it sadly could happen).
The other reason is optifine changes the basic way the game works to make it run faster, and these changes can (not always, but often do) break things in mods, like thermal expansion machines do not like optifine at all and have constant z-fighting(the texture flickering you may see while near a TE machine). This second point is also why most mods do not, atleast officially, support optifine, as they have no real way to see how the mod changes huge things in the game and work around the changes, even if they wanted to do so.

Edit: Also there is one other thing I forgot, due to the modders not supporting optifine it is not included in packs, as without possible creator support the packs could easily be broken messes

Ah, okay, I understand. Thank you for your answer :D. I didn't think about compatibility and I didn't read the modpack-term of the license. Let's re-add OF after every update :(. I will use it despite the "z-fighting"...

That and Optifine in a modded environment will only net you at the absolute optimistic best 5 FPS.
The mod only optimizes vanilla rendering and hardly touches modded rendering, and when it does it causes severe graphical glitches that are worse then Z-fighting Like GUI's not rendering properly, if at all.

Adding it as default would be pointless and would annoy a lot of players.
