So, I discovered that the new Direwolf pack has advanced generators, which I missed from previous mod packs. However, there seems to be no non-nuclear way to get steam for the steam turbine/syngas generator. If there is something that I missed, please tell me, and if not, perhaps this modpack needs an update?

It might seem small, but being able to use special generators means a lot to me, and I like to be able to use all of the stuff in the modpack.
 
Thermal Expansion has the Boiler Augment for the steam dynamo. Can also be paired with the turbine augment for some early-mid-game power, at two Turbine-augmented steam dynamos per 1 boiler-augmented steam dynamo.
 
Advanced Generators has it's own Syngas production, which wasn't overly complicated to set up. I don't remember if that used steam as an intermediary step or not. Either way, the Advanced Generators setups should be a viable option for you to create power with it without the steam.
