Besides the material they are made of and that Sulfur Torches drop Sulfur Goo, what are the differences between these torches? Does one give more light than another? Is one more blast resistant than the others? I can not find any info on these and I'm not really sure which mod makes the Sulfur and Aluminum Torch.

Those new torches acts as glowstone blocks and the sulfur one is very cheap on resources since you get 8 for one recipe very handy and you need less too. So you get more for less!

There's no difference in light level, and the 'goo' is the difference. As I understand it, sulfur goo can be used like bonemeal.

The Sulfur goo acts as bonemeal and also as red dye, and the Sulfur/aluminum torches give off a greater light level than normal torches.

IIRC from what I have read the Aluminum torches give off 15 light level as opposed to 12 of normal but I think sulphur are the same as normal torches.

Regular torches give 14 light, per the wiki, so an aluminum torch gives a slightly larger area of light, but not hugely so. The major benefit is that it's the only non-solid block that gives level 15 light, (well, aside from fire, but you're not going to walk through those all that often.) so you can use them for regular caving & whatnot.

The major difference between the Sulphur and Aluminum torches is that the Alu ones do not drop sulphur goo which when you use them as caving\area lighting tools is great as you really don't want a bunch of sulphur goo sitting around in the world causing lag.

Sulfur torches drop goo which can be used as red dye or bonemeal and are a bit brighter. Aluminum torches dont drop any goo but with the same light level as sulfur torches, mostly to prevent lag/keep your chests from being overstocked with goop

It may be just me, but I like the aesthetics of the Aluminum Torches better than regular ones, too. It just looks out of place to light my mad scientist's lair with flaming sticks. :p

Nitor can be used as a floating light source that gives off 15 light and you can walk through it, but it's a bit more costly.

Yeah, one nitor costs roughly 14 torches, but it's worth it. :)

4 Ignis, 6 Lux, and 4 potentia, so only 6 torches per nitor, but yea, much more flexible than the other lighting types that require you to attach them to something like a wall while not being intrusive like a floating block of glowstone. I plan on using it as my major light source for my floating base once I get it running.

Edit: Derp, of course the 2 charcoal/coal for the ignis and potentia. But those can be gotten from other sources easily, especially after you get alembics to drain off what you don't use so you don't make your aura hate you.

I was using coal for the ignis and potentia (2 each in one piece of coal), plus 6 torches for the lux (1 each). 2 coal (plus 2 sticks) = 8 torches, plus the extra 6.

Yea, edited my post above when I realized that. With IC2 though you should be able to grow cocoa beans for potentia and after you get your netherwarts you can use those for ignis and drain off the extra bad aspects, though it's not as automateable as the whole tree farm > charcoal thing, but can be useful when you have alembics but no logger.

Has anyone tried building a Sulfur Goo farm? I haven't found a Skeleton Dungeon yet so this is potentially a useful supply of bonemeal-replacement. I have built a single layer of Monkeyfarm's mob farm (four triangles of water with an X shape of channels feeding into the middle) with an Obsidian pipe collecting them into a chest, will post a pic tonight. I have a column of torches about 15 high, so about 60 torches, in the middle but it isn't producing much. Perhaps I would get more if I built an upside down pyramid covered with torches instead of a single column for greater surface area. I'd like to know more about the Sulfur Goo spawning algorithm if anyone can help.

I built one using a hole in the ground about 3 deep a chest in the middle and a Thaumcraft wooden Golem to get the sulphur goo the hole was about 7x7 perimiter so 7*7*3 147 torches all automatically collected could then put a filter on top if you wanted it to automatically put into a sorting system or go where it is needed.

Or you could try placing the wooden golem on a relay instead of a chest so it would automatically go into the system without needing redstone pulses.

Do you know if the amount of goo produced is proportional to the number of torches, or am I wasting resources by having a tall column of them? *Edit* Wow, 147 torches, that's quite a lot. I need to get more gunpowder.
