Difference between "grey listed" and "white listed" servers?

I know it is a stupid question. but in the year and a half of play minecraft, I've only known of open and white listed. I plan on starting a server and I just wanted to check before I posted a thread in the server section. Also I've looked in the forums, and googled it. I couldn't find anything.

A greylist in the context of a Minecraft server is where users are able to join the server, chat and interact with other players but are not able to build until accepted.

Oh that's cool; grey listed servers kinda sound rather ideal - someone can come on and the community can get to know them without any risks.

Grey listed servers also sometimes use a tier system. with perks tied to those teirs. Like only tier 2 and up can use chunkloaders or the such.

Any time a server is listed as grey it is best to check what there rules are.

Greylist is my favorite. You can get to meet the person in game rather than a forum post, You don't have to keep checking a thread to accept people or see if you're accepted, and sometimes you can explore the whole world and fight mobs and eat and cook stuff, just no placing blocks. Just adventure mode.
