Detecting Players, blocks with alternating light levels.

So it seems only Gregtech has a player proximity detector somewhat readily avaiable. And I don't play with GT.

Is there an alternative? I don't want to use pressure plates all around the floor, but there might be a better way to do it.

Also, Xycraft for 1.5.2 isn't public, but what has caught my attention was the Xychorium Lights. So far, are they the only block which responds to the redstone signal's intensity with the same light level?

No, glowstone illuminator from TE also works like that. You can change modes using wrench or change color using dyes.

Openccsensors.

It has a full api for scripting lua with computercraft, or if you dont know lua you can just use the proximity block
