I've gone into bee-breeding in order to make several resources endlessly renewable, among others, Soul Sand.

I've made my way through the Imperial and Industrious branches in order to get the resources for automation and Extra Bees machines, then through the Arcane and Supernatural branches into the Aware branch but now I've hit a roadblock: In order to go on, I need an Attuned Bee, which can purportedly be found in "Deep Hives". I've had conflicting information about where to find those, some say Mountain biomes, some say Magical, the only consenses is that they're deep down. I've mined out several chunks of Magical Forest, Mountain and Extreme Hills at levels 10-16 with no success. I find no hives at all in Mountans, an abundance of Infernal and Oblivion Hives under Magical Forest but no Deep Hives? Is there anything I'm missing?

A related problem: I've even built a Buildcraft quarry (which I dislike) because this is known to give me the bees from hives - and I hope it will do the same for the Attuned Bees as for the Rocky ones. It is still running so I don't know if it will work, but it creates a lot of flowing water since I started around a lake. Is there a way to flatten that water?

Leave that water flowing till the quarry has finished it deals with any lava that the quarry will uncover, otherwise it stops at lava. Deep Hives, last I checked, were found in redstone clusters under Extreme Hills biomes, and found near the bed rock level.

When the quarry is done use a sponge or from extra utilities to soak up the water sources and stop the flow.

OK, I'll have a look in Extreme Hills.

As for the water, I'd rather have a lake than a hole in my world. Is there any way to do that?

Buildcraft has a block called Flood Gate, which is a kind of anti-pump -- it places fluid blocks into the world. Using that with water should work, but it'll almost certainly flood any connected caves, and I'm not sure if it stops at its own y-level, either.

BC Flood gates, Rotarycraft liquid spiller, buckets :p

For the flood gate it will fill every space with water source blocks working up from the lowest point layer by layer, so seal off caves otherwise any connected cave system WILL be flooded.

LOL, is there anything RotaryCraft doesn't have a machine for? I'll check that out.

Also, my BuildCraft quarry found two Deep Hives for me in a Magical Forest biome. Two in 16 chunks! That's worse than cobalt and ardite in the Nether, about 10 times as rare as the Infernal and Oblivion hives.

Ahhh yeah any of them can spawn in a magical forest, just very very rarely! It does not have a machine to make machines yet. Needs some form of assembly line adding in, imo

As a reminder, Ex Nihilo(aka that Skyblock companion mod) somewhat recently(as in a few updates ago) added Magic Bees support. If you can't find hives for any of the big name bee mods now(and are there any other bee mods with hives beyond Extra Bees and Magic Bees?), then make some hives.

Thanks, but (a) I don't know what "Skyblock" is (please explain) and (b) I think I have now found one at least one princess and drone of each of the Magic Bees hives. Missing the Embittered and Water species from Extra Bees, but I haven't searched for those yet.

It stops at it's own y-level.

A: A Skyblock is a map style, generally with a block of dirt(or an island), a tree growing(usually on the only block of dirt, but sometimes you're lucky enough to have a spare block of dirt to work with, or an island), and without mods, a bucket of lava and a bucket of water. Nice ones give you a handful of saplings and some bonemeal. Smart ones give you an island made of something other then dirt. Stupid ones give you too much island and one has to light it up before night because monsters could spawn on it. And a brilliant one lets you get resources without adding custom recipes for everything. Usually by adding mods that already do that.

B: Ex Nihilio can get you any bee with some work. Not for free, and not without effort, though. One may have to go to other dimensions to get rarer bees, but only because not all biome flags exist on the overworld. With other mods, even that isn't an excuse.(RotaryCraft fans, take it away!)
