Hello!

Recently there was a post by someone looking for a 30+ group, and I was surprised at the large amount of people in that age group.

A few days ago Slowpoke posted about the "why no launcher" thing, and a lot of people gave project management advice and said they where experienced, many said they where programmers, many project leaders, etc.

I know its possible some where lying, but, and I swear its no joke, I co-own and manage a small software factory, and I recognize most of the advice as solid, def not something made up by someone too young.

That got me wondering, what are the demographics for FTB players?

I know modded minecraft is not as accessible as vanilla, so a bit higer age is to be expected, but just wondering if theres a graph somewhere?

This is something I'd love to see as well. I definitely feel like vanilla is dominated by younger people and modded seems to be a bit more.... aged. Of course this is just from personal experience from server hopping for a while. It would be interesting to see how it's balanced.

Just from my experiences on the web... people seem to be able to exude an aura of something their not. I don't know how they do it, but I've come to know everything on the internet is true and people seem to know alot. To our benefit, internet is not short on giving advise on what anybody else should be doing...

Im not sure i understand. You are saying the guys that said they where experienced where actually not?

I do agree that by carefully choosing your words you can give a different image than your true one, but i dont think thats the case for a few (at least) of the guys that commented on that post. Their comments contained solid advice....

I'll just say, don't believe anything you see on the internet... even if you know it to be true as a fact. I'm willing to bet not everyone in the why no launcher thread is 6'5" 250 lbs and knows a flying cow about program management, programming, or what is going on inside FTB development much less outside.

I assure you I am not one of those. I's shorter, heavier, and I don't know any flying cows.

I don't get it... you are the perfect candidate to tell "He's a" Slowpoke what he needs to do at this point... I didn't see you advise him on anything.

This article might explain it. :)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_culture
As of 2011, the average age for a video game player is 37,[1] a number slowly increasing as people who were children playing the first arcade, console and home computer games continue playing now on current systems.[2] The gender distribution of gamers is reaching equilibrium, according to a 2011 study showing that 58% of gamers are male and 42% female.[1]

Well, most 5-10 year olds usually don't care enough/aren't smart enough to mod minecraft. Of course, there's always an exception...

That was me a few years ago, but learning the average age is quite intresting, though it does not surprise me. I expected 23-29 range to be average, but the wikipedia article quoted in this thread had an explanation so it makes sense.

That wiki article was quite informative. Thank you for sharing it. :)

For a more specific to our community here perhaps my analytics from my YT channel could help? My channel is pretty much just modded MC and seeing who is watching YT for that might give some light on who is playing it. Not ideal obviously but maybe helpful. :)

13-17- 18%
18-24- 12%
25-34- 18%
35-44- 25%
45-54- 19%
55-64- 6%
65+ 2%

That's 52% above the age of 35

87% Male 13% Female

One thing that is notable is the average age of female viewers is higher than males. Only 48% of male viewers are over 35 while 76% of female viewers are.

*data is from just over 700,000 views
