I believe the reason for the message is that there is some dispute between Greg and some other Devs on the proper point at which to register items with the OreDictionary. That message is showing up instead of the actual OreDictionary name depending on when the function is being called (pretty sure anyway).
IIRC, if you read the log, that greggy_... thing is added to the ore dictionary right after Factorization adds other ores and items. GregTech complains about the naming of each one, as they do not match the most common ore dictionary naming conventions (and because GregTech parses the names to generate recipes procedurally, such as giving every recognized ingot block, dust, small dust, tiny dust, and plate forms, along with various machine and crafting recipes to convert between them).
It's probably just Factorization's way of stating that it knows about GregTech's complaints but doesn't intend to change how its ore dictionary naming style.

I was asking for the joke, not for who greg is or did.
I know both of those things already. I just wasn't up to speed with these little gags...

if you want to understand just the joke without wanting the background information, some mod developers don't like greg.
I can't explain it more easy then that...
