Darkened, Reddened and Omega Bee

I was playing ftb retro 1.2.5. Since the modpack is several years old, there isn't much information about the mods there... I was trying to use the apiary to get the darkened bee, which I heard is really overpowered. However, because the version of Forestry is so old, I can't seem to get it to work. Can anyone explain how to breed those bees?

According to the ftb wiki, to make a darkened bee you need to combine a modest and wintry bee while having a dark matter block underneath the apiary and having a MK2 Relay next to said apiary containing 1 dark matter's worth of emc per mutation.
