FTB wiki is been worked on ATM, and I'm sure there will be brilliant tutorials on how to use mods in the best way, and such. But until then check the Factorization wiki/minecraftforum thread to learn more ;)

Is there a way to automate the crystalizer? I have been heating it up then breaking the heater block and dropping it one space away while I wait.

well atm buildcraft is possible, though the sides are wonky with this machine, (input is the sides, output is top and bottem i believe,)
just pump reduced chunks in and pump crystals out, dont worry about the sulpheric acid in my testing it has never been used up.

If you have the energy storage and generation capacity, leaving the heater in place doesn't seem to stop the crystallizer from doing its job. Unfortunately, pipes will dump all the reduced chunks into one slot at a time, which really increases the processing time if you don't have five stacks worth of chunks.
