Crude oil and oil sands?

So, while I have been mining, I have found a block that looks somewhat like coal ore, but it is called crude oil. When I used NEI to find out what I could do with it, nothing showed up. I have also found oil sands... It's similar, but more... sandy. So, are these unfinished blocks, or is there some sort of super-duper awesome secret to them?

Both of them are a part of Traincraft. Throw that stuff in to a distil to make diesel, which can be used to power some of the trains in the mod. The mod's website:
