Hi all, I have dabbled in Thaumcraft before but never really got into it fully. I'm wondering how to find out the best combinations for things to throw in the crucible. I already know Nitor which is easy by doing 6 torches, 3 coal and then 3 glowstone and that's a perfect match. No waste/taint at all. Now I'm trying to do alumentum but I fail to find the right ingredients that don't cause any waste. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Sometimes you won't be able to do it without waste. You could use the automated crucible, that draws essentia through pipes.

there are two easy ways:
1. Mana Beans, just make a farm for them. They have exactly 1 of a single aspect, making them perfect for the crucible.
2. Phials. Put for example cobble into an alchemic furnace (with alembics and the like) and output the essentia into jars. You can then take out the essentia with the phials, gaining the pure essentia for use in the crucible.

Thanks for these suggestions. I will experiment with that. Needed to make a mana farm in any case :-)

The phials thing is how I make my thaumium.

I farm nether wort and shove the produce into an alchemical furnace. Bit of juggery-pokery with essentia tubes and I have a ready supply of Herba (for my lamps of growth) and a nice Praecantatio byproduct which I decant into warded jars but then take phials of it to combine with iron ingots for waste-free thaumium production.

It also helps to know what your modpack consists of. Dartcraft, for example, gives pure praecantatio in the form of force nuggets.
