Hi All,

Been a while since I last posted... I'm playing DW20 1.0.14 following his you tube series :)

Was out exploring tonight on my private server when I noticed this purple region about 100 blocks away from the perimeter of my base, I wandered over to investigate only to discover this nasty creeping material called 'Fibrous Taint' covering EVERYTHING for a over large area.

There were wisps... masses of zombies, and tainted pigs!
Not only that, but there are these 'tentacle' things!

The tentacles sometimes attack the skeletons and zombies, but the tainted pigs are very nasty

I do not know if this is just something i've noticed recently or if ... The taint is spreading.

One query though, can taint spread on a server even if the region is not chunk loaded?

Please note, though I am doing some thaumcraft, I have learnt that to avoid taint one uses phials of essentia in a crucible (no excess essentia that way) and anyway my thaumcraft workshop is over 250 away from this region of death/horror.

The main thing is though...How does one do prepare to do battle with such evil? Is there something I can research? I've heard that Silverwood trees can help but this stuff is everywhere...

I have also noticed many 'tained biomes' on my world map that I swear did not exist a few weeks ago...

I will say, you are correct in that the tendrils are spreading, and yes, they will over time convert the biome they're in to a taint biome.

I have thought about simulating a thaumic disaster activating "dormant" taint areas (i.e. change config to allow spread) after a period of time to allow for development. Could potentially be quite interesting on a server and a fun game with a group.

Invasive, yes to be sure. Perhaps it could meter itself to a crawl if there are no unlocked Ethereal Blooms in the world. Perhaps other mechanics. Still, this form of taint is both more interesting and a lot less crazy in spread compared to TC2.

Well, prepare yourself for a battle. Just know that you will have to clear out all the caves below the taint as the taint will reach there as well. And yes the taint will spread.

I like it. Minecraft is way too peaceful for my tastes, it needs some... danger >:D

I agree, except when you start a new world, don't check what's just over that Extreme Hills Biome, get a Jetpack, fly over there, and find yourself with Taint just about to hit you. On top of that you've barely started, so you find yourself utterly unprepared for fighting the Taint. Then you have to find yourself Silverwoods, grow a couple for the bloom things for Ethereal Blossoms or whatever, or find a Magical Forest, try and contain the Taint as well as grabbing some pure nodes to destroy the Taint steadily as well as destroying any fibrous taint manually as they're what actually spreads the Taint. And not to mention it spreads underground.

I understand what you mean (that sucks), but... I don't know, I like the danger xDD.

Taint is annoying when you find it in or near an area you'd like to settle, but it is technically easy to deal with. Just make sure the chunks aren't loaded while you prepare/build up your base and tech tree elsewhere. The ethereal blooms seem to work in a 2D area, so you only need to plant them on the surface, and they kill the fibrous taint for you.
