Crashing Server

  • Tech Support section is for getting help with FTB related problems. If there's a repeatable issue that can be labeled as a bug, then please use the issue tracker for the pack or the app at GitHub issue trackers - If there's no repository for a pack that means that the pack is old and/or will not be updated. Bugs for older packs will not be fixed, unless they are critical.

Title:
Crashing Server
Launcher Version:
1.4.10
Modpack:
Direwolf20
Modpack Version:
1.8.0
Log Link:
Details of the issue:
First, I apologize for the vagueness of the title of this ticket. I really don't know how to describe it in just a few words.

So, I was playing by myself on my server that I've been hosting when the power at my [real-life] house flickered off for a minute, and then came back. I turned my computer back on and started up the server and it said, "Forge Mod Loader detected that the backup level.dat is being used. This may happen due to a bug or corruption, continuing can damage your world beyond repair or lose data/progress. It's recommended to create a world backup before continuing."
So I went ahead and made a backup save of my world and tried replacing the level.dat files with ones from a new world (as suggested from this guide: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Tutorials/Recover_corrupted_saved_world_data). I rebooted everything and loaded into my world with a cleared inventory (as expected) and my character was back at the spawn location. I started heading for my base, but when I got near, my server crashed. Tried again with the same results. Here is my crash report:

What can I do to fix this? I've spent MANY hours on this server, and would really be bummed if something was permanently damaged. :( I could REALLY use some help. Thanks.

If you are world edit or mcedit savvy try deleting the BC tank at: (-672,190,744). The log above tells you where it is too. :)

Thank you very much for the response.
So since my last post, I did download MCEdit and I'm pretty sure I was able to find the right block, though it was difficult because I couldn't actually SEE it (all of the blocks that aren't in vanilla were appearing as transparent pink blocks, I'm assuming because MCEdit doesn't know what they are), rebooted everything and the same thing happened. I got kicked off when I went near that area. However, this time, my crash report looks a little different?

Looks to be Storage Drawers (I think) freaking out about something. I am not entirely sure what though. Are you using storage drawers? If so, might be worth it to remove them 1 by 1 via McEdit or just boot with the mod not enabled. Booting without the mod will remove ALL of the storage drawers and items with them but it might save your region. Remember to make backups!

No, I am not using storage drawers. I'm not sure what that is, but I'm fairly certain it's not in here. I'm playing Direwolf20, if that helps at all.

Update: While playing around with MCEdit, I noticed that one the chunks, specifically the one immediately next to the problematic BC tank, in my world was copied and pasted somewhere it shouldn't be (does that make sense?). So I assumed that that chunk was causing problems. I went ahead and deleted it just to see if that would resolve anything, and it actually worked. Unfortunately now I must play with that chunk missing. I added it back in creative mode, but it's ugly now. :(

Also, there were two other chunks that were just deleted strangely. This must have happened before i had a chance to backup my save file, so under the assumption that I can't get those chunks restored, I am just doing my best to fill them in manually.

Fingers crossed that this doesn't happen again. Is there any way to be sure that it won't? I hadn't been using that specific BC tank all day, nor was I anywhere near that part of my server. I have no idea why everything became such a mess.

Sounds like chunk corruption. When your server lost power it could not save the region files correctly and so everything came out a jumbled mess. I suggest using a backup mod or plugin to take regular backups. If you have world edit installed sometimes you can //regen the chunk to at least make it look like fresh generated area (assuming the seed has not changed). Sorry this happened, I wish you the best of luck with everything. :)

Edit: I fail at looking at Modpack names/versions. I assumed Infinity. Sorry to mislead you.

Thank you very much for your time.
One more question: How do i apply one single mod to a server manually? I am using Feed the Beast launcher and just downloaded the Direwolf20 modpack in its entirety. The simplicity of downloading entire packs with the click of one button has spoiled me, I guess. Also, if I download that, will the other people using my server need to download it, too? I know that's the case with SOME mods, but I don't assume it's the same for a mod like that. I have no idea how that kind of stuff works.

If you have a mod on your server, players will need to manually download it and put it on their clients as well (unless it is some utility server only side mod). You will need to find that mod (via the googles or other search engine), download it manually then plonk it into your mods folder for the server download that you did via the FTB Launcher.

Hope this helps!
